Tech Check!

Setting up for a telemedicine abortion service

A tech check is an assessment of the technology needed for a telemedicine encounter, and helps ensure that your visit goes smoothly. While some technology setbacks are out of our control, there are ways to be prepared. Some factors to consider:

  1. What type of visit do you have? Your needs will be different whether we’re meeting by video, phone, or asynchronous email. (Asynchronous refers to communication where we may not be present and ready to respond to one another immediately).

  2. Check your internet and/or cell service. Especially if you are visiting or live near a remote area, ensure that you are located somewhere with a stable connection. A secure, private connection is also important because as we discuss sensitive health concerns.

  3. Check your environment to reduce distracting background noise like alarms, TV, radio, etc.

  4. For video calls, make sure that you have open access to your device’s microphone and camera. For most devices, you can grant this access in the settings.

  5. With most video visits, you will be sent a link to test your connection, microphone, and camera prior to the visit. We always suggest you do this, so we can devote all of our appointment time to reviewing your questions and concerns, instead of troubleshooting tech issues.

Let us know if you have any questions or concerns about tech checks!
